KPDNKK uncovers illegal decanting activity in Penang

NIBONG TEBAL: An enforcement team from the state Domestic Trade, Co-Operatives and Consumerism Ministry (KPDNKK) smashed an illegal gas decanting syndicate at Changkat Dain, Sungai Bakap here, at 1.35am this morning.

The nine-man raiding party stormed the premises where workers were seen transferring gasses from 12kg and 14kg tanks for domestic use to 50kg industry gas tanks – an illegal activity called ‘decanting’.

The workers were taken by surprise, but managed to escape through several routes out of the premises, leaving the gas tanks behind.

Amongst items seized were 45 50kg gas tanks, 232 12kg gas tanks, one 14kg gas tank and several others, as well as RM4,300 in cash.

"Total seized items worth amounts to RM76,781. We had been closely-monitoring their activity for the past one month, before launching the raid today," said State Enforcement Chief Mohd Nor Musa in a statement today.

The case is being investigated under Section 21 of the Control of Supplies Act 1974 for unlawful possession of controlled articles.
