RM31 mil palm oil scam: More arrests could be made, say police

GEORGE TOWN: Police have not discounted making additional arrests in connection with a RM31 million crude palm oil (CPO) investment scam.

Police have detained two men thought to be the masterminds of the racket – a 57-year-old man in Kepala Batas of Wednesday, and his 35-year-old son in the Klang Valley on Sunday.

The federal police's Commercial Crime Department director Datuk Acryl Sani Abdullah said the investigation is ongoing, and others could be discovered to be involved in the scam.

"There may be other members involved. We are probing the matter further.

"What is (most) important is that we track down the ill-gotten gains of the scam," he said.

It was reported that police seized cash, luxury boats and cars worth up to RM4.3 million from the 57-year-old suspect.

A 100ha date farm in Batu Kurau, Perak, owned by the main suspect, was also sealed by the police, pending the outcome of investigations into the scam.

In a follow-up operation on the heels of the arrest of the main suspect, police seized a Bentley Continental, a Toyota Land Cruiser and RM850,000 in cash.

Police have received 248 reports on the scam since last year.
