KUALA TERENGGANU: For attempting to bribe a policeman RM50, a man was slapped with a day’s jail and fined RM10,000 at the Sessions Court today.

Judge Mohamad Haldar Abdul Aziz handed the sentence to V. Nanthakumar, 35, after he pleaded guilty to the offence when charged under Section 17(b) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Act 2009.

Nanthakumar faces a six months jail term if he fails to settle the fine.

He was charged for attempting to bribe Lance Corporal Mohamad Shaffery Abdul Razak from the Chukai police station in Kemaman, as an inducement not to take action against Bangladeshi Md Akkas Ali, who failed to produce a valid travel document.

The accused had committed the offence at a road block at the Sungai Limbong bridge in Chukai at 5.35pm on March 27, 2015.
