Syndicate selling drugs served in powdered juice sachets busted

KUALA LUMPUR: Drug syndicates in Serdang now have a new modus operandi to distribute their goods.

They are hiring teenagers as their runners to deliver drugs to their customers. On top of that, they are also mixing drugs with powdered juice drinks in sachets to avoid detection.

This new tactic was however exposed when five, including one female, aged between 17 and 21, were arrested by the Serdang Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department on Monday.

Serdang district police chief Assistant Commissioner Megat Mohamad Aminuddin Megat Alias said the sachet was being sold for between RM350 and RM400.

“Acting on tip-off, the five was picked up from different locations around Puchong.

“The drugs are delivered to the customers’ doorsteps when there is an order and the runner can earn RM50 per sachet.

“The syndicate has been targeting mainly teenagers and has been active for the past two months,” he said at a press conference here yesterday.

He said all five arrested were also tested positive for drugs and have been remanded until May 22 to facilitate investigations.

Police also seized RM3,000 worth of amphetamine, ketamine, Eramin 5 and ecstasy from the quintet.

Megat said police are now hunting for the mastermind behind the syndicate.

He also urged members of the public to be wary of the powdered drink sachets sold by the syndicate, which is packaged as lime lemon and grape flavours.

The case is being investigated under sections 39B, 39A(1) and 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
