Man arrested for spreading rumours of fighter jet 'dropping bomb' in Sg Muar

MUAR: Police have arrested a man in his 60s to help investigations over the spread of a viral story, which claimed that a fighter jet had dropped a bomb into Sungai Muar several days ago.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Azman Ayob said the man was detained here today to assist investigations under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code for statements conducive to public mischief and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act for improper use of network facilities or network service.

"The police will continue to trace other people who had spread the news. We advise those involved to step forward as their statements are required," he said.

Azman said police are seeking the following Facebook users:

- Zue Aziz

- Balingviral

- Jebuk La

- Md Rafizi Misman

- Mohamed Radzie

- Rol Ea

- Zack Abdul Karim

- Zack Mozaff

- Zura Muar

The message, which was spread on WhatsApp, claimed that an aircraft had flown close to the ground and that it had dropped a bomb in Sungai Muar after being pursued by a fighter jet.

The message came with a voice note of a man talking about how his car was apparently damaged after he sought shelter at a mosque shortly after the "incident".
