Myanmar woman stabbed to death in Seberang Prai robbery

SEBERANG PRAI: A Myanmar woman was stabbed to death in a suspected robbery near a workers’ hostel at Canon Staff hostel in Taman Belimbing Bukit Tengah here yesterday.

The grisly incident was caught by one of the hostel’s closed-circuit televisions (CCTVs).

Tin Mar Moe, 28, had just returned to the hostel from work when she was accosted and chased by a man. Her body was later found near the guard post at the Taman Belimbing flats, with six stab wounds.

Seberang Prai Tengah police said based on the CCTV footage, they were able to identify the man as Myanmar national, Aung Kyaw Sae, 28.

A Police K9 unit was later deployed and managed to track down Aung, who was hiding in a drain some 70 meters from the site of the incident.

Police found Aung in possession of the victim’s black bag and mobile phone, as well as a knife believed to be the murder weapon.

The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the penal code.
