From Sg Petani to Sik: Police tail, corner, nab man on wanted list

ALOR STAR: It was the end of road for a man high on the police’s wanted list when he was cornered by the police at a petrol station in Sik with nowhere to run.

It is learnt that a task force from the Kuala Muda Criminal Investigation Department had tailed the 22-year-old suspect, who was driving a Proton Iriz, all the way from Sungai Petani under Ops Lejang.

The task force, travelling in two separate cars, then blocked the Proton Iriz when the suspect pulled into a petrol station in Kampung Merbau Kudung, Batu 5 in Sik at about 2.21pm.

The main suspect was caught with another accomplice in the car.

The car was reported stolen in Bedong, Merbok last month.

Kedah Criminal Investigation Department chief Senior Assistant Commissioner Mior Farid Al Atrash Wahid said when the policemen identified themselves; the main suspect had quickly reserved the car in his bid to escape, hitting the front side of one of the police’s Proton Waja.

“The policemen fired three shots at the car’s wheels and subsequently apprehended the duo.

“Upon inspection, the team found a parang, a knife and three straws of substances, believed to be heroin, inside the car,” he said in a statement.

Mior Farid said initial investigation showed that the main suspect, from Sik, was on the police’s wanted list in connection with a cheating and possession of stolen car case while his 16-year-old accomplice, a Form Four student from Langkawi, has no previous record.

Police have classified the case under Section 379 of the Penal Code for car theft, Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for heroin possession.

The duo is also being probed under Section 186 of the Penal Code and Section 6 of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensives Weapon Act 1958 for the possession of parang and knife.
