AG to be handed report on probe into death of UPNM student soon

IPOH: A report on the police’s investigation into the death of Malaysian National Defence University (UPNM) student Zulfarhan Osman Zulkarnain will be presented to the Attorney-General (AG) soon.

"The investigation is near completion and (the paper) will be presented to the Attorney-General for the next course of action. Wait for the decision by the AG.

"A lot has been said about the case. I don't want to tell you the motive (of the crime), though we know (what it is). The court will tell you the motive," said Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar on claims that Zulfarhan was brutally bullied after a laptop owned by one of his friends went missing.

Khalid refused to divulge any further details. He was met during a sahur (pre-dawn Ramadan meal) session organised by the district police headquarters here today.

It was reported that 32 UPNM and four Universiti Tenaga Nasional (Uniten) undergraduates, aged between 20 and 21, were arrested and investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code.

Zulfarhan, a navy cadet officer, was reported to have suffered severe injuries, believed to have been sustained from having a steam iron pressed onto his chest, hands and feet.

He died on June 1 while undergoing treatment at the Serdang Hospital.
