MACC detains Johor PWD engineer for alleged power abuse

JOHOR BARU: Johor Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has arrested an engineer from the Kulai Public Works Department (PWD) on suspicion of power abuse for personal gains.

The 38-year-old suspect was arrested at the Johor MACC office at about 1pm today after he had his statement recorded.

Sources said the suspect has awarded several projects involving grass cutting and general cleaning works to his brother. Initial investigation showed that the projects are valued at about RM20,000.

The case is being investigated under Section 23 of the Malaysia Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009 which carries a jail sentence of up to 20 years and a fine of no less than five times the amount of bribery or RM10,000, whichever is higher, upon conviction.
