KULIM: An odd-jobber was charged at the magistrate's court here today with channelling funds to Southeast Asia's Islamic State (IS) leader, Muhammad Wanndy Mohamed Jedi, who was killed in Syria two months ago.
Azudin Mahmud, 54, is alleged to have provided direct funding to the late terrorist by allowing RM3,500 to be deposited into his Maybank account, in the belief that some or all of the amount would be used by Wanndy to fund his terror activities.
He is charged under Section 130O(1)(b) of the Penal Code, which is punishable under Section 130O(1)(bb) of the same Act, which provides for a minimum of seven years' imprisonment and a fine upon conviction.
Azudin is alleged to have committed the offence at about 7.26am on Jan 27, 2016 at a house with the address of 307, Jalan Jati 1, Taman Jati here.
No plea was recorded from the accused when the charge was read out before magistrate R. Manomani.
Deputy public prosecutor Ellyna Othman prosecuted the case while the accused was not represented.
