Police: Klang boy's attempted abduction claims untrue; lie told after playing truant

KLANG: A school boy, who playing truant, had wasted hours of police time investigating a claim that he was almost abducted by several men in a white van, here on Tuesday.

The claim, however, turned out to be a lie after police reviewed closed-circuit television (CCTV) recordings at the area where the incident had purportedly took place.

Klang Selatan police chief Assistant Commissioner Alzafny Ahmad said initial investigation revealed that the 9-year-old boy made up the abduction attempt to hide the fact that he skipped school.

"It was not true. Police have checked CCTVs in the area, and found that the incident did not happen.

"Investigation later revealed that the boy had lied to his mother because he did not want to be punished for not going to school," he said when contacted today.

Alzafny said police have classified the case as NFA (no further action) as the boy's mother, aged 35, lodged the report based on false information provided by the boy.

Earlier, a copy of the mother's police report had gone viral on social media when she claimed that two men, including one wearing mask, had tried to abduct the boy when he was cycling to the religious school in Kampung Jawa at about 2pm on Tuesday.

The boy told his mother that one of the men chased him on foot while the other was driving the van. He had said that he managed to give the men a slip at a gated location.
