Trio who fatally beat motorist in Pantai Dalam sentenced to 22 years jail

KUALA LUMPUR: A father, his son and their friend were sentenced to 22 years' jail each, for jointly causing the death of a motorist, who had crashed into a shop in Pantai Dalam last year.

However, two other men who were charged along the trio, were acquitted by the court.

In sentencing them, Judicial Commissioner Datuk Mohamd Shariff Abu Samah said the trio should not have taken matters into their own hands by beating up the victim for causing the accident.

"There are laws in place to deal with drivers who are drunk and you should have left to the police to deal with the victim. The beatings which was endured by the victim, was vicious and fatal," he said.

Taxi driver Ahmad Bohari Mohamad Noor, 52; soldier Ahmad Saipunizam Mohd Pirus, 36; supermarket employee Muhamad Haire Ahmad Bohari, 24; who is Ahmad's son were found guilty of causing Liew Han Yuen's death at Jalan PPR Kampung Limau, Pantai Dalam in Kuala Lumpur, between 11.40pm on April 14 and 1.30am, on April 15, 2016.

Mechanics Atan Mad Sah, 51; and his son Suhaimi Atan, 25, were freed by the court.

The men were represented by Saiful Zulhelmi Zulkifli, Azizul Rohan Anuar, Adi Zulkarnain Zulkafli, Faizal Rahman, Wan Azmir Wan Majid and Shafiqa Balqis while deputy public prosecutor Ahmad Nazreen Zulkifli appeared for the prosecution.

A total of 17 prosecution and 12 defence witnesses were called during the trial.
