3 Domestic Trade Ministry staff members nabbed for graft

KOTA KINABALU: Three staff members of the Domestic Trade, Co-operatives and Consumerism Ministry (KPDNKK) of the Beaufort division were detained this afternoon for allegedly soliciting a bribe from a business owner.

The three, all in their thirties and working for the enforcement department, were arrested at their workplace at between 12.25pm and 12.40pm, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s (MACC) Sabah office said in a statement here.

“The arrests were made based on a complaint filed on July 19 when the three accused were said to have asked for a bribe of RM600 from the complainant on July 14 at 12.30pm.

“(The bribe was solicited in exchange for) the complainant not being compounded for price tag and weighing/measuring offences under Section 10 of the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011,” said Sabah MACC director Datuk Sazali Salbi.

An application for remand of the three to facilitate investigations is being made and the case is being investigated under Section 17 (a) of the MACC Act 2009 for soliciting/receiving gratification.
