MACC raids 3 Sarawak companies over FIC's Kuching hotel purchase

KUCHING: Officers from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) visited the offices of three companies here today as part of an investigation into the purchase of a four-star hotel in the city by Felda Investment Corporation Sdn Bhd (FIC).

The three companies, which include a developer and property agent, are believed to have been involved in the purchase of the hotel, allegedly bought by FIC at an inflated price about two years ago.

Checks by the New Straits Times showed three separate teams from the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya arriving at the premises at Jalan Tun Ahmad Zaidi Adruce, Jalan Petanak and Jalan Tun Abang Haji Openg here at around 10am.

The raids on the offices were also to seize documents related to the hotel purchase.

An initial MACC probe showed that FIC lost millions of ringgit in the purchase, as the hotel at Jalan Tun Haji Abang Openg was believed to have been acquired at a price higher than its original value.

MACC deputy chief commissioner (operation) Datuk Azam Baki confirmed that the visit was part of the commission's investigation into the case.
