Inspector nabbed for allegedly receiving bribe in kidnap case

SHAH ALAM: Selangor police today said they have arrested one of their own for allegedly receiving bribe in exchange for releasing a suspect in a kidnap case.

State Criminal Investigations Department chief Senior Assistant Commissioner Fadzil Ahmat said the Inspector attached to Gombak district police headquarters was arrested on Thursday.

"On July 27, Selangor CID arrested an investigating officer attached to Gombak CID. He is suspected of having taken gratification to release a detainee who was involved in a kidnap case in Gombak early this year.

"The 32-year-old officer is being remanded for seven days until Aug 3 to facilitate investigation under Section 17 of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009," he said in a statement.

Fadzil said the detainee whom the inspector allegedly released for bribe was involved in the kidnapping of a transportation company manager on Jan 25.

It was reported that the gang of kidnappers asked for RM3 million and tried to fool the police by employing ransom drop tactic.

The tactic however was foiled, and saw five suspects arrested by police only hours later.
