PETALING JAYA: A Singaporean businessman who was caught on camera beating a guard dog in Puchong about four months ago claimed trial at the magistrate's court today to inflicting pain and suffering on an animal.
Yee Kok Chew, 57, is alleged to have committed the act at a security guardpost at Jalan BK 6E/4 ( 1 ), Taman Melody, Bandar Kinrara in Puchong.
Deputy public prosecutor Shafiq Hasim from the Attorney-General’s Chambers, who appeared with prosecuting officer Mohd Faiz Ajis from the Selangor Veterinary Department, requested the court to impose RM3,000 bail.
The court was also informed that the dog is currently being kept at the department's kennel.
Counsel Joshua Andran did not object to the bail amount requested by the prosecution.
Magistrate Mohd Azali Ibrahim set bail at RM3,000 in one surety and fixed Sept 4, 2017 for mention.
In the incident, a CCTV footage which captured the attack on the dog named Furby went viral and sparked outrage on social media.
The video showed a man beating the dog, and at one point bashing the dog with a motorcycle helmet.
The man had earlier fallen off his bicycle as the dog broke free of its leash and barked at him. This led to the violent beating.
