KUALA LUMPUR: Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali today issued a letter of demand to the Inspector-General of Police, asking him to arrest Malaysian businessman Low Taek Jho.
Azmin, through his lawyer Latheefa Koya, sent the letter dated Aug 1 on the basis that the young businessman has been suspected of various criminal offences related to 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).
In the letter, Azmin asked for Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar to take necessary actions including seeking the assistance of Interpol to detain and extradite the businessman who is also known as Jho Low.
Azmin claimed that Jho Low was suspected of committing several criminal breach of trust and money-laundering offences.
The letter also stated that if Khalid failed to comply and ignored the letter within 14 days, a legal action would be filed in court to compel him to take the necessary steps.
Latheefa said Azmin wanted Malaysian police to work with Interpol and issued a red alert.
"Azmin is basically saying that Jho Low is a wanted person and there must be steps by the police and IGP to have him arrested.
"We believe that there has been no steps taken for him (Jho Low) to be taken back here (in Malaysia)." she said.
