2 GLC employees remanded over RM2 mil repair job which never took place

PETRA JAYA: A senior technician and engineer of a state government-linked company (GLC) were remanded for seven days to assist a probe by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) into repair works for a flat in Permyjaya, Miri, which never took place.

Magistrate Zaiton Anuar granted the remand order when the suspects, attached with the Housing Development Corporation (HDC), were produced in court at about 10am today.

Clad in orange lock-up uniforms, the suspects, aged 59 and 39, appeared calm when the court interpreter read to them the remand application filed by MACC prosecuting officer Ikhwan Mohd Ibrahim.

They were among four people arrested by the graft busters to facilitate investigation into the case, which was raised in the 2016 Auditor General's Report released on July 31.

The other two individuals arrested are the main contractor and sub-contractor appointed to carry out the RM2 million job.

The main contractor, 49, was arrested at his office, while the sub-contractor, in his late 30s, was picked up from his house in Sibu.

The main contractor was not remanded, but placed under close monitoring by the MACC, since he is set to perform the haj next week.

The sub-contractor will be remanded in Sibu.
