Senior citizen jailed, fined for stealing from Sea Games merchandise shop

KUALA LUMPUR: A senior citizen who took his family to the Bukit Jalil National Stadium to watch the various sports activities for the Sea Games was caught stealing at a sports shop in the area and was sentenced to a day’s jail and fined RM800, in default eight days’ jail, by the Magistrate’s Court here today.

Magistrate Ahmad Solihin Abd Wahid handed down the sentence on Attan Selamat, 65, after the man pleaded guilty to stealing eight T-shirts, valued at RM555, at the shop.

The offence was committed at the FBT Shop, Stadium Nasional Bukit Jalil, Cheras, at 11.10 am last Aug 21.

Attan, who is from Sabah and unemployed, paid the fine.

Deputy public prosecutor Noorelynna Hanim Abd Halim prosecuted, while Attan was unrepresented.

According to the facts of the case, a salesman at the shop saw Attan stealing the T-shirts and informed the shop manager and they managed to apprehend Attan with the help of the police.--BERNAMA
