Varsity student stabbed by robber who took his handphone

KOTA BARU: A 22-year-old Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (UMK) student was injured after he was attacked with a knife in a robbery near the university's city campus in Pengkalan Chepa here recently.

Thong Soon Hock was playing with his iPad when he was attacked about 9pm on Friday night.

Recalling the incident, Thong said he was sitting at a closed-foodstall waiting for the rain to stop when suddenly he was approached by an unknown man.

"The robber managed to grab my handphone and when he was running to his friend who is waiting on a motorcycle, I decided to chase him.

"Then he took out a knife from his pocket and slashed me on my stomach," he told reporters here today.

The second of three siblings said he was taken to Raja Perempuan Zainab II hospital and received 15 stitches for the injury.

Meanwhile, MCA National youth central committee member Chua Hock Kuan who also present during the meeting, hoped that the UMK's authority would upgrade the security aspects near the university's compound to prevent a repeat incident.

"If necessary, add more security guards to monitor the area especially during nightime. MCA will also seek the district police's assistance so that more patrol cars can be deployed in the area," he said.
