KUALA LUMPUR: Police today confirmed the arrests of several individuals, including a secondary school student, for planning to launch terror attacks in the country.
It is learnt that the arrests began in Kelantan on Tuesday, and that a bomb-expert is among those detained.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohd Fuzi Harun declined to divulge further details on the investigation, as it is still in its early stages.
"I can confirm that we have arrested more than one (person) believed to be involved in the (planned) attack.
"I will release a statement in the next two or three days (on the investigation)," he told reporters this morning.
Fuzi was speaking after witnessing a duty-handover ceremony for the Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID), and Strategic Resources and Technology Department (StaRT) directors.
CCID director Datuk Seri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani will take over from StaRT director Datuk Seri Abd Manan Mohd Hassan, who is retiring after serving the force for nearly 41 years.
City police chief Datuk Amar Singh Ishar is succeeding Acryl Sani.
On another matter, Fuzi said police are maintaining their stance on the planned "Sayangi Malaysia, Hapuskan Kleptokrasi" rally, saying that action will be taken against its organisers, despite their having obtained permission from the Petaling Jaya City Council.
"We learnt that the Petaling Jaya mayor gave approval for the rally at Padang Timur, but we have received 27 reports against the rally, complaining that it will affect traffic in the area.
"We are proposing a better venue – the Kelana Jaya Stadium – for the rally. If they fail to adhere to this instruction, action will be taken against them," Fuzi said.
The Pakatan Harapan-led anti-kleptocracy rally is scheduled to take place at Padang Timur from 4pm until midnight tomorrow.
