KUALA LUMPUR: A woman has lodged a police report against her husband after making a shocking discovery. The man had abused and raped their maid.
Following the report, police have picked up the 45-year-old man and also detained the 33-year-old Indonesian maid to facilitate investigations.
The 40-year-old woman, who only wanted to be known as Yanti, said she found out what her husband has been doing after she told her maid that she had planned to divorce him.
“When I told her that, she told me that she had something to tell me and she then confided that she had been raped several times by my husband.
“She said she was scared for her life as he had threatened her to keep it a secret.”
Yanti said she was made to understand that the alleged rape had taken place several times over the past two to three months.
She also claimed that she caught the husband hitting the maid on September 17, prompting her to lodge a report.
She said the maid had been working with her family for the past one year and was really close to them.
The maid however does not have valid documentation.
“She was an illegal so once the report was lodged, they called her up to record her statement and she was detained right away,” she said.
Yanti said she had written to the Indonesian embassy so that they could assist the maid.
Subang Jaya police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohammad Azlin Sadari said the suspect had been arrested on Friday and remanded to assist in investigations.
Azlin said the case was being investigated under Section 376 of the Penal Code for rape, which carries a maximum of 20 years’ imprisonment and caning if convicted.
The investigation paper, he said, would be handed over to the deputy public prosecutor tomorrow for next course of action.
