Sabah cops nab two foreign women offering sex services via WeChat

KOTA KINABALU: Two foreign women were among four people arrested in a prostitution sting at a hotel in the Penampang district on Friday.

In the 4pm operation, a police team stormed a hotel room and nabbed the two women from Mongolia and China.

Sabah criminal investigation chief Datuk Salehhudin Abd Rahman said the women, aged 25 and 27, had offered sex services via the WeChat application.

"In the operation, we also detained two local men suspected to be customers. My men seized a box of condoms, a notebook, a bank card and RM1,175 in cash, among others.

"We also inspected the women's passports. They entered the country a few days ago on social visit passes," he said.

Salehhudin added that the arrest of a Mongolian citizen for prostitution was the first case of its kind in Sabah.

The case is being investigated under Section 372 B of the Penal Code for soliciting for the purpose of prostitution.

Meanwhile, in a different operation, police nabbed nine people for involvement in illegal online gambling activities.

They were arrested at 11.30pm on Friday after police raided a premises in Penampang.

In the operation, police also seized 11 computer sets and RM4,171 in cash, among other items.
