Marine police nab four illegal immigrants in Sandakan waters

SANDAKAN: Marine police captured four foreigners attempting to enter the country illegally during an operation at Kuala Batu Tiga waters near here on Saturday.

Region Four Marine Police commander Assistant Commissioner Mohd Yazib Abd Aziz said based on intelligence, his team intercepted and inspected a speed boat with a skipper ferrying three passengers, at around 11.30pm.

“All in the boat, aged between 38 and 57, did not possess any identity document or valid social pass,” he said.

The four were detained and the speed boat was seized and taken to the district police station for further action under Section 26 (J) of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007 (offence of conveyance of smuggled migrants); as well as Section 6 (1)(c) and Section 5(2) of the Immigration Act 1959/1963 (unlawful entry and unauthorised entry point).
