NADA officers cajole addict to surrender

KUANTAN: Upon noticing the arrival of National Anti-Drugs Agency (Nada) enforcement officers at his house doorstep in Balok here on Saturday, a transvestite locked himself inside and refused to open the door.

Only when the enforcement team warned they will not hesitate to use an iron cutter to cut the padlock, the 35-year-old adhered their instructions and reluctantly opened the door.

When the man, who works as a tailor, was tested positive for syabu, he told the Nada team he started consuming the drugs several months ago to overcome stress.

"I am taking it just to be a little relax and furthermore my housemate also consumes it. I tried to stop several times but just could not resist from taking it.

"It has become a habit and even when I decide to stop, my housemates continue consuming it and I become tempted to try it," said the suspect, identified as Eryn.

Eryn, who was alone at home during the raid, were among 64 drug addicts aged between 16 and 51 year old picked during an operation at several hotspots here.

Meanwhile, State Nada enforcement and safety assistant director Rizal Seaat said 40 officers participated in the operation between 9am and 11pm following several days of surveillance.

He said Nada raided several hot spots known for drug menace in Sungai Ular, Cherating, Balok, Chendor and Beserah, and they welcome information from the public to assist the agency.
