Malaysian telco CEO arrested in Dubai for possession of drugs

KUALA LUMPUR: The chief executive officer (CEO) of a local telecommunications company was arrested at Dubai International Airport for possession of drugs in September.

Media Prima Bhd television station TV3, in a report today, said the man, in his 40s, was repatriated on Tuesday after serving a sentence in the United Arab Emirates for the offence.

The man was arrested at the airport on Sept 18 upon arrival from Amsterdam, after enforcement officers found drugs stashed in his luggage.

The drugs were believed to be cocaine.

The man was then held at the airport’s detention centre for two weeks for investigation before serving a sentence in prison.

It is learnt that the CEO is expected to hold a press conference tomorrow.
