Two private clinic assistants charged with sending obscene SMS to woman

SEREMBAN: Two private clinic assistants were charged at the Sessions Court here today for sending obscene SMS to a woman three years ago.

Nor Zeland Ithnin, 57, from Rompin, Pahang and his colleague Othman Kadir, 58, from Melaka, pleaded not guilty after the charges were read to them before Judge Ahmad Fairuz Mohd Puzi.

Nor Zeland was charged with seven counts of

initiating communication that was obscene in nature with intention to insult a woman at Bandar Baru Sunggala, Port Dickson.

The offences were committed from Aug 16 to Aug 19 between 5.26am and 9.20am.

Othman was charged with three counts of initiating communication that was obscene in nature with intention to insult a woman, at the same location, on Aug 6 and Aug 7 between 12.29am and 4.03am.

Therefore, the two accused were charged under Section 233 (1) (a) of the Communications and Multimedia Act (Act 588) and punishable under Section 233 (3) of the same Act which carries a a maximum fine of RM50,000 or imprisonment for a year or both upon conviction.

The prosecution was conducted by Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) prosecutor officer, Nazrul Nizam Mohd Zamri while both accused were not represented.

The court allowed Nor Zeland and Othman bail with one surety of RM1,500 and RM1,000 respectively for all charges. The court fixed 27 Dec for remention.
