Married couple held over murder of woman found dead at oil palm plantation

KAMPAR: Police have detained a married couple in connection with the murder of a woman whose body was found at an oil palm plantation in Mambang Di Awan here on Friday.

Initial police investigations revealed that the man was the victim’s lover.

The victim, 28-year-old S. Letchumi, from Bandar Baru Kampar was found with head injuries. Her body was discovered at about 1pm in Taman Permai.

Kampar police chief, Supt Ng Kong Soon said the suspects, both aged 46, were picked up early today.

He said the man was picked up from his home, while his wife was nabbed when she came to the district police headquarters. Both have been remanded until Dec 7.

“We are in the midst of investigating the motive for the killing. Based on the post-mortem report, the cause of death was due to blunt force trauma.

“There were signs the victim was repeatedly struck on the head with a blunt object and that she was involved in a struggle (with her assailant),” he added in a statement here today. – BERNAMA
