KUALA LUMPUR: DAP member Datuk Zaid Ibrahim may be investigated under the Sedition Act or the Communications and Multimedia Act 1988, for remarks he allegedly made against Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun said he was informed that police reports have been lodged against the DAP member.
"We will investigate, maybe under Section 4 of the Sedition Act or Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act," he said, adding that he has yet to receive the total number of reports lodged against Zaid.
Zaid had allegedly made the remarks after the ruler warned politicians not to capitalise on sensitive issues, which included race and religion, to garner votes.
The DAP man was said to have tweeted “When some Rulers play politics; they must know the consequences. Don’t think there is no price for partisanship”, and “Sultan Selangor should be careful with his words. No one is immune when country burns”.
Asked to comment on Selangor Umno Liaison Committee chairman Tan Sri Noh Omar’s plan to hold a peaceful demonstration to show support for the Selangor ruler on the matter, Fuzi said police are always on standby.
"Patrols are always ongoing, and we will take action (if needed)," he said.
Fuzi was speaking to reporters after launching the ‘Tabung Prihatin Pengaman’ for the welfare of policemen and retirees at the police training centre in Jalan Semaarak here, today.
The fund aims to assist those in the police force, including police retirees, who are in need of funding for emergency cases such as medical treatments.
The public can channel their contribution, from as low as RM2, through ‘derma.pengaman.my’. The cases will be filtered by the Yayasan Pengaman’s committee members.
Also present at the event was Yayasan Pengaman’s chairman Tan Sri Norian Mai and his deputy Tan Sri Hussin Ismail.
