Kajang illegal sand-mining case: Selangor MB's nephew released on RM100k bail

PUTRAJAYA: The nephew of Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali and a company director were released on Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) bail of RM100,000 with one surety each today.

The bail was granted by magistrate Aida Khairuleen Azli.

Clad in MACC’s orange lock up t-shirts, the suspects, aged 34 and 67, arrived at the court here at 9.10am.

The duo had been remanded for 10 days to assist in the MACC's probe into illegal sand and gravel-mining activities in Selangor.

On Nov 30, four individuals comprising two company directors, one site manager and an advertising agency employee were remanded for seven days for their alleged involvement in the illegal activities.

On Dec 6, one of the directors and the site manager were released on bail of RM15,000 and RM10,000, respectively, with one surety each.

The remand of Azmin's nephew, who is believed to be the advertising agency employee, and the other company director, was extended for three days.

It was reported that the investigation launched by the MACC revealed that a sand-mining company had allegedly bribed local government officers in Kajang, where the company has been operating since 2014.

It is understood that the officers were allegedly bribed to not take action against the activities.

Following the arrests, the MACC also froze RM4 million in the company's bank account.
