Felda land probe: Isa Samad to be quizzed next week

KUALA LUMPUR: Police will summon ex-Felda chairman Tan Sri Mohd Isa Samad to assist its investigation into Felda's Jalan Semarak land, next week.

Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Tan Sri Noor Rashid Ibrahim, said Isa's statement is important to the case as he was Felda's top-ranked person at the time.

"We will summon his next week to have his statement recorded.

"As the then-Felda chairman and linked to the company's investment decisions, this must be investigated," he told media members after an event in Bukit Aman, today.

Noor Rashid said police have already recorded statements from five people, comprising Felda officers, land office staff as well as Companies Commission of Malaysia personnel, over the case.

"Initial investigation has begun. We have recorded several statements and taken some documents from the Companies Commission of Malaysia related to the case.

"Police have also visited the land office to investigate the (Felda) land transfer process. We will be analysing the matter further," he said.

He said investigations are expected to pick up in intensity next week when police record statements from important individuals linked to the case, and obtain several key documents.

He said the case is being investigated under Section 420 and 471 of the Penal Code for fraud and falsification of documents.

A Berita Harian exposé last week reported that Felda stood to lose its hold on its strategic land in Jalan Semarak, estimated to be worth more than RM200 million, following dubious transactions since 2015.

The land transfer is said to have taken place when Felda Investment Corporation Sdn Bhd (FIC) appointed a local company as a main developer on June 3, 2014, and gave it full power of attorney to develop the land.

Following the exposé, police formed a special team to investigate the land ownership transfer.
