3 cops charged with kidnapping multi-millionaire businessman to enter defence on Jan 30

KUALA LUMPUR: Three cops who were charged with abducting a multi-millionaire businessman four years ago were ordered by the Sessions Court today to enter their defence.

Judge Shamsudin Abdullah made the order after finding that the prosecution had succeeded in establishing a prima facie case against inspector Mohd Khairul Hafiz Yaacob, 37, and police personnel Azlan Abdul Kadir, 37, and Amran Md Sali, 41.

The court fixed Jan 30 and Feb 27 for the trio to make their defence.

Khairul Hafiz, who was previously attached to the Ampang police headquarters, and Azlan and Amran, who were previously attached to the Selangor police Contingent headquarters, were alleged to have kidnapped Datuk K. Gopala Guru, 48, with intent to wrongfully confine the victim.

They allegedly committed the offence at Jalan Maharajalela, off Jalan Loke Yew in Dang Wangi here, about 7.30pm on Feb 2, 2013.

Deputy public prosecutor Nurakmal Farhan Aziz prosecuted while the trio were represented by counsel Ridha Abdah Subri and Mohd Farid Aziz.

A total of 20 prosecution witnesses were called to testify in the trial which began last year.
