Isa Samad with police to record statement on Felda Jalan Semarak land issue

KUALA LUMPUR: Police are currently recording former Felda chairman Tan Sri Isa Samad’s statement to assist their probe into the Jalan Semarak land scandal.

Bukit Aman Commercial Crime Investigation Department director Datuk Amar Singh said Isa arrived at the Federal police headquarters at 10.30am today, accompanied by four special officers.

“I can confirm that Isa is here and his statement is still being taken as of now.

“Since today is Friday, we will continue after prayers,” he told reporters at the the department's headquarters at Menara 238 today.

Amar said Isa is the ninth person to be called by the police to record a statement on the issue.

He said another person, a Felda official, will be called up on Monday.

Amar said the other eight who have been called were officials from Felda as well as developer Synergy Promenade Sdn Bhd.

He also added that Isa’s wife Puan Seri Bibi Sharliza Mohd Khalid was not present today.

The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code.

It was reported that Felda was at risk of losing ownership of the piece of land, worth over RM200 million, following what had been described as a “dubious deal”.

The plot of land, which has been earmarked for the Kuala Lumpur Vertical City (KLVC) development project, will feature seven towers, including Felda’s iconic tower, to be known as KLVC Tower 1A.

The ownership transfer of the land took place when Felda Investment Corporation Sdn Bhd appointed a local company as its main developer on June 3, 2014, and it was granted full power of attorney to develop the land.

Isa was Felda chairman from 2011 until January last year, Felda Global Ventures Holdings Bhd (FGV) chairman from Jan 1, 2011 to June 19, 2017 and FIC chairman since its inception from July 2, 2013 to 2017.

Isa is now the Land Public Transport Commission chairman.
