Warisan VP Peter Anthony remanded three days over RM155m probe

KOTA KINABALU: Parti Warisan Sabah (Warisan) vice-president Datuk Peter Anthony has been remanded for three days until Monday to assist a probe into the purchase of a RM155 million oil palm land in Sabah.

The order was issued by Magistrate Cindy Mc Juce Balitus following an application by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

Peter, 46, was detained about 1pm yesterday after giving a statement to the MACC. Anti-graft officers had also gone to his house to retrieve documents.

Peter's counsel Martin Tommy said his client was supposed to be released today and he had prepared necessary documents to be submitted at the MACC office.

"But this morning, I was contacted by MACC, who said they would be applying for a remand order at the court."

Peter, with a bible in hand, appeared calm as he entered the court about 11am.

MACC senior enforcement officer Khairudin Kilau prosecuted on behalf of the commission.

The politician is remanded under Section 16(a)(A) of the MACC Act 2009 for bribery.

He was arrested on Oct 5 last year and was released on bail on Oct 13.

He was among 13 people remanded by MACC to facilitate investigations over allaged misappropriation of rural project funds for Sabah.
