Man remanded for hiding grenade inside condo drain

KUALA LUMPUR: A man who hid a grenade inside a drain in the compound of the De Tropicana Condominium in Kuchai Lama has been remanded until Thursday.

City police chief Datuk Mazlan Lazim said the suspect, who is in his 40s, worked at a Karaoke outlet at Kuchai Lama.

Police had ruled out elements of terrorism in the case.

Yesterday, police arrested a suspected drug addict near an entertainment outlet in the area.

The Interrogation led police to a drain located near a staircase in the condominium compound where they found the grenade.

The suspect claimed that he obtained the explosive from a friend got it in Thailand two years ago and the reason he hid the grenade was following concerns that he might be arrested by authorities for possessing it.

The police bomb unit had secured the grenade for analysis and declared the area safe from other explosives.
