Penang cops seize RM1.5mil worth of syabu from BMW, arrest two

BUKIT MERTAJAM: Police busted a drug trafficking syndicate on Wednesday with the arrest of two men and the seizure of 21kg of syabu from their BMW sedan at Jalan Jelawat here.

The bust occurred at about 11.40am when a group of policemen ambushed the car which was parked near an eatery here with the two men – aged 38 and 51 – inside. The policemen had tailed the car to the location.

After the duo was arrested, police found 20 packets of syabu wrapped in newspaper weighing 21.07kg, with a street value of RM1.5 million.

"We believe that the drugs were meant for distribution on the local market, and we are still investigating the source of the drugs.

"This amount of drugs could be misused by over 210,000 addicts were it made available on the black market," Penang police Chief Commissioner Datuk A. Thaiveegan said at a press conference on Friday.

Police also seized an Omega watch worth RM5,000 from one of the detained men.

The duo, originating from Perlis and Kedah, has been remanded until Jan 25 for further investigation under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for trafficking in dangerous drugs.
