Fifth suspect in Sabah Railway department graft probe picked-up, RM1.6m seized

KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah Railway Department graft probe saw a fifth person being picked-up and RM1.6 million seized by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission today.

The suspect, who owns a company with jobs with the railway department was picked-up at the MACC office this afternoon.

According to source, the man is believed to be involved in corruption and power abuse in maintenance and emergency works between 2012 and 2017.

"The suspect had used several licences from different companies including three which belonged to his wife and children to get jobs with the department.

"In return for the favours, he was said to had bribed officers from the Sabah Railway Department."

During the search at suspect's house on Wednesday, with the presence of wife and child, the commission found RM1.6million.

The monies has been seized to be investigated whether it is related to the probe.

MACC will apply remand for the man tomorrow together with remand extension for four people including a deputy director of a state department.
