No patrol cars from China, only for the movies

KUALA LUMPUR: There are no police vehicles from China used in Malaysia.

Police said this in a statement, denying claims that Chinese vehicles were used by the force in the country.

A photo of two Malaysian police vehicles emblazoned with Chinese characters was posted on social media with the allegation.

The two vehicles in the photo were props used for filming a movie, the statement said adding the claims posted on a Facebook fan page are false.

The fan page, which used a profile picture and a name of a former top national leader, questioned the Home Ministry for allowing the use of the Chinese characters on Malaysian police vehicles.

"Those two vehicles were used by a film company to shoot a film entitled 'The Original Sin' in Putrajaya.

"The film tells the life of a policeman in a fictional city Han. It is to be distributed in China," the statement said.

It added that the police took the allegation seriously as it clearly intended to create a bad perception towards a government agency.

It advised the public to be prudent and careful in using the social media platform, as well as refrain from posting something which is potentially slanderous.

"Don't just simply upload a posting without verifying the fact as it would lead to a negative implication to certain parties."

The statement also said it's inappropriate for anyone to misuse pictures and names of prominent figures in their fan page's profile to promote their own agenda.
