Corruption: Dr Kunaseegaran ordered to enter defence

SHAH ALAM: The Sessions Court here today ordered a pathologist at the Tuanku Mizan Armed Forces Hospital (HATTM) to enter his defence on charges with soliciting and agreeing to accept bribes totaling RM700,000 from a medical supply company five years ago.

Judge Rozilah Salleh made the decision after finding that the prosecution, after calling 16 witnesses, had succeeded in establishing a prima facie case against Colonel Dr R. Kunaseegaran, 55.

She fixed March 15 for the defence trial.

Lawyer Datuk Geethan Ram Vincent, representing Dr Kunaseegaran, informed the court that the defence would call one witness to testify, that is the accused himself.

The prosecution was conducted by deputy public prosecutor from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), Mohammed Heikal Ismail.

Dr Kunaseegaran, who is in remand at the Sungai Buloh Prison, is also on trial on a charge with abetting six others in the murder of deputy public prosecutor Datuk Anthony Kevin Morais three years ago.
