Mentally-disabled Kuantan man sentenced to 5 years' jail for outraging sister's modesty

KUANTAN: A mentally-disabled man was sentenced to five years’ imprisonment for outraging the modesty of his younger sister last year.

The 26-year-old was sentenced after pleading guilty to two charges at the Sessions Court here before judge Dazuki Ali.

In the first charge under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Act Against Children 2017, he pleaded guilty to touching his 11-year-old sister’s private parts and buttocks in a room at their home about 7pm on Aug 8 last year.

In the second charge, under Section 14(b) of the same act, he was alleged to have forced his sister to hold his genitals, at the same time and place.

Both sub-sections of the act provide for a maximum 20-year jail sentence and whipping.

In pleading for a light sentence, the accused, who was unrepresented, said he was disabled and worked in a factory for only RM30 a day.

Dazuki then meted out five-year jail sentences for each charge, to be served concurrently.

According to the facts of the case, the accused was said to have also done the same thing to his other younger sisters.

However, he had not been charged with these offences.
