Soldier charged with beating wife

KUALA LUMPUR: A soldier was charged in the Sessions Court here today with causing severe injuries to his wife by assaulting her with his hand and a rattan last January.

Mohd Shahazuan Abdol, 36, pleaded not guilty to the charge read out before Judge Dr Gan Chee Keong.

The accused was alleged to have committed the offence against Khalizan Boiman, 37, at a house in Phase 12 of Precinct 9, Putrajaya on Jan 11, 2018 between 9pm and 10pm.

He was charged with committing an offence under Section 325 of the Penal Code which provides a maximum seven-year jail and fine.

Earlier, Deputy Public Prosecutor Muhammad Farith Muhammad Faizal proposed a RM15,000 bail for the accused, while counsel Ahmad Soleh Yusof, who represented the accused, sought a RM5,000 bail.

The court allowed the accused a RM6,000 bail in one surety and with the additional conditions that the accused had to hand over his international passport to the court and did not interfere with the witness until the case was completed. The court fixed April 20 for remention of the case. -- Bernama
