BATU PAHAT: Police arrested a 48-year-old man, who ran amok after his mother refused to give him money, in Taman Sri Jaya, near here, this morning.

In the 8.45am incident, police said the man not only broke the door and windows of his home, he also threatened to assault his 72-year-old mother and 81-year-old father if his demand was not met.

Batu Pahat police chief Assistant Commissioner Abdul Wahib Musa said the unemployed man was nabbed by a team of policemen after the mother called the police for help.

He said initial investigations showed the man had a history of drug abuse.

"At the time of the incident, the suspect was at home, with his mother. His father was in the Sultanah Nora Ismail Hospital being treated for injuries sustained following an argument with him on Monday.

"The suspect's mother contacted the police and asked for him to be arrested after he went berserk and broke the door, windows and other items in the house." said Wahib.
