Woman charged with cheating 5 people over purchase of diamond rings, luxury watches worth RM202,900

KUALA LUMPUR: An unemployed woman was charged in three separate magistrate's courts today with five counts of cheating, in connection with the purchase of diamond rings and luxury watches worth RM202,900.

Lau Yin Ling, 27, pleaded not guilty to the charges read before magistrates Mahyudin Mohmad Som, Maizatul Munirah Abd Rahman and Siti Radziah Kamarudin.

Before Mahyudin, Lau was charged with deceiving Rosilah Subari, 46, by convincing the victim that she had transferred RM26,000 into the victim's account for the purchase of two diamond rings.

The offence was allegedly committed at St Mary Residences in Jalan Tengah, here, at about 12.10pm on March 3.

She was also charged in the same court with cheating Jonathan Lourdes, 30, by claiming that she was interested in purchasing a Breitling watch and a Tag Heuer watch from him worth RM37,000 and used a fake receipt as proof of payment.

She allegedly committed the offence at Midvalley in Brickfields, here, at about 1.35pm on March 12.

Before Maizatul, Lau claimed trial to cheating Lau Chew Weng, 33, by deceiving the victim into believing that she was interested in purchasing a branded watch worth RM80,000 from the victim and had also used a fake receipt as proof of payment.

The offence was allegedly committed at Bangsar South Camille Service Residence in Brickfields, here, at 11.30am on Jan 10.

In the same court, she was charged with cheating Retheuwan Wan Chik, 79, by using a non-existent receipt to purchase a Rolex watch and a Royal Wedding coin collection at Mac Cafe Intermark, PU3 in Jalan Tun Razak, here on Feb 7.

Meanwhile, before Siti Radziah, the accused was charged with cheating Aida Othman, 38, by showing interest in purchasing a Rolex Oyster Perpetual watch from the victim worth RM59,000 at Decanter restaurant in Brickfields, here, at about 7pm on Feb 4.

Lau was not allowed bail and her case will be up for mention on May 17, May 18 and May 24.

Deputy public prosecutors Nur Farah Adilah Noordin, Amirul Asyraf Abdul Rashid and K. Vasugi prosecuted while the accused was unrepresented.
