Ranau accident: Picture of money found with BN leader is fake

RANAU: Police have rubbished claims of an alleged discovery of a sum of money inside a car following the death of a Barisan Nasional (BN) leader in a recent accident at Jalan Kota Kinabalu-Sandakan near Bukit Taviu, here.

Photos of the accident, showing a black Toyota Land Cruiser car which collided head on with a lorry, were posted by user Hussein Abdul Hamid yesterday on his Facebook account.

The photos were also accompanied with two other pictures of a sum of money inside a box and also a man clad in blue shirt as well as hat with the BN logo on it. The Facebook user also posted: “Sabah BN man in accident with money in the car...”

District police chief Deputy Superintendant Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah, when contacted, however confirmed the photo of the sum of money was fake and has nothing to do with the accident.

“The accident did occur and the man, whose photo was circulated, was the driver identified as Sulaiman Harianto, 28. He was killed at the scene.

“There were two other passengers at that time and they were Datin Rositah Ghani Abdul Shah, 53, and her daughter Nurul Zafiral Abdul Hajan, 24. Both were seriously injured and were taken to the Duchess of Kent Hospital in Sandakan,” he said today.

The trio were travelling in a Toyota Land Cruiser car on Tuesday when they were involved in an accident with a Toyota Hilux Vigo car and a lorry.

Mohd Farhan, however, said Rositah died in a coma early yesterday morning.

She was the wife of Semporna Umno committee member Datuk Abdul Hajan Gurimbang

He said police have yet to receive any reports with regards to the dissemination of the false information, stressing investigation will be conducted against the individual for spreading false news once a report is lodged.

It is learnt that the photo of the money was actually an old picture which circulated previously through a picture message on the alleged distribution of RM100 fake bank notes in the country.
