Rafizi's GE13 video about phantom voters goes viral, report lodged

KEPALA BATAS: A blogger has lodged a police report over an eight minute-long video footage of a press conference held by PKR vice-president Mohd Rafizi Ramli.

It shows him making baseless allegations against the National Registration Department (NRD) and the Election Commission (EC) about the existence of ‘pengundi hantu’ (phantom voters) based on the names of two individuals.

In the video, Rafizi claims that NRD could have given them identification cards that EC could have used to register them as phantom voters.

Nor Mohamed Mohd Yusof, 46, said the video footage, titled ‘Hantu Dikesan, Rafizi bimbang JPN beri IC Palsu’, which was uploaded on May 6, 2015, had gone viral again ahead of the 14th General Election.

He said it painted a bad picture of NRD and EC, and called for a thorough investigation to expose the PKR leader’s lies.

“As a peace-loving citizen, I want the authorities to launch a probe into the matter to put a stop to allegations against NRD and EC. If it is allowed to continue, people will lose trust in both agencies,” Nor Mohamed told a press conference at his house here today, adding that he had carried out online checks on the records of both individuals and had yielded the same results as in the past.

“If there is any wrongdoing by NRD or EC, surely the records of the two voters would have been changed for the coming general election.

“So, the claims made are without basis, and I hope the authorities will investigate both the voters to verify the matter.”

Nor Mohamed, who obtained permanent resident status recently, said he had full faith in NRD and EC.

“I was born and raised in Penang but both my parents are not from here.

“For the love of the state, it took me 40 years to obtain Malaysian citizenship.

“If I am made to wait this long, how can such allegations (NRD issuing fake identification cards) arise?” he asked.
