High Court to decide on Shafie's status tomorrow

KOTA KINABALU: The High Court here has set tomorrow to decide whether Parti Warisan Sabah (Warisan) president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal could remain as a candidate in the 14th General Election (GE14).

Judge Azhahari Kamal Ramli said a decision would be announced at 11am after hearing arguments from both sides earlier today.

The judicial review application was filed by Semporna Umno committee member Datuk Mohd Ainal Fattah on April 17 thorugh counsel Marcel Jude, naming the Election Commission (EC) and Mohd Shafie as first and second respondents respectively.

During the proceedings, EC was represented by senior federal lawyer Andi Razali Jaya assisted by Dorine Patrick, Nik Azrin Zairin and Azizan Md Arshad, while Mohd Shafie was represented by Datuk Doughlas Lind and Chung Jing Dau.

Mohd Ainal previously filed the application to obtain a mandamus order from the High Court to compel EC to reject Mohd Shafie’s nomination as candidate for GE14, as well as an injunction to stop his candidacy until money from the RM7.5 billion total allocation claimed to be missing when Shafie was serving as a Rural and Regional Development Minister, was returned.
