Man detained at KK Airport after live bullet found in bag

KOTA KINABALU: A man was detained at the Kota Kinabalu International Airport after auxiliary police discovered a bullet in his hand luggage.

In the incident at 5.55pm last Saturday, the 23-year-old engineer was stopped during a security inspection when a baggage scanner detected an object resembling a bullet.

The Sabah man works in Johor and had returned home on May 8 to vote. He was supposed to board a flight back to Johor.

Airport authorities immediately alerted the police over the find and detained the man.

“During the baggage security scanning process, they… instructed the passenger to take out all his belongings from his bag.

“After removing all clothes (from the bag), the passenger took out a live bullet and handed it to the auxiliary policemen,” District police chief Assistant Commissioner M Chandra said.

He added that the passenger denied owning the bullet and claimed he had not been aware of its presence in his bag.

The case is being investigated under Section 8 (a) of the Arms Act 1960.
