KOTA KINABALU: A 20-year-old man was sentenced to 32 years’ jail by the Sessions Court for involving four children in sexual acts.
Mohd Hafiz Jarashid pleaded guilty to eight charges of involving four children aged between 9 and 14 in sexual acts between Sept 17 and 24 last year in Papar.
Judge Noor Hafizah Mohd Salini ordered him to serve the sentence from the date of arrest on Sept 25 last year.
The charges were under Section 14(a) and 14 (b) of Sexual Offences against Children Act 2017.
Deputy public prosecutor Dinesh Raja Dore Raja prosecuted.
In mitigation, Hafiz, who was unrepresented, said he repented his actions and asked for a lenient sentence as he wished to find job.
In a separate case,19-year-old Mohd Fazly Junieh was sentenced to eight years’ jail for armed gang robbery in Penampang.
Noor Hafizah ordered to sentence to commence from the date of arrest on Feb 27.
The unemployed youth from Putatan near here had on Feb 26 used a machete to rob a man of his smartphone.
Dinesh prosecuted while Fazly was unrepresented.
He pleaded for light sentence as he had to help his family and provide for the schooling of his siblings.
