PUTRAJAYA: Police yesterday carted away about 40 luxury handbags after raiding two houses here yesterday.
The raids were done in connection with police investigations into the 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) scandal and former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
The raid was conducted by policemen from the Bukit Aman Commercial Crime Investigation Department on the properties located in Precinct 10 and Precinct 11.
Federal Commercial Crime Investigation Department director Datuk Seri Amar Singh confirmed the raid but declined to comment.
A pensioner, who stayed nearby, said the bungalow had been empty for the past year.
He said the house, located about 200m from Seri Perdana, belonged to the Property Management Division of the Prime Minister’s Department.
It was used as a senior government officers’ quarters and the last occupant was one of Najib’s former private secretaries.
Stacks of boxes could be seen in the living room as police sifted through their contents.
It was reported that police previously raided several premises linked to the former prime minister.
In a raid at the unit in Pavilion Residences in Kuala Lumpur, police seized RM114 million in 26 foreign currencies.
They also seized 37 luggage bags containing jewellery and other valuables.
