32 illegal immigrants nabbed on buses heading from Semporna to Kota Kinabalu

KINABATANGAN: Thirty-two illegal immigrants were arrested in an operation along the Sandakan-Lahad Datu road here this morning.

District police chief Superintendent A Sahak Rahmat said the 29 Filipinos and three Indonesians, including 11 children, did not have legal documents.

He said they were aged between 4 and 54.

They were arrested onboard express buses enroute from Semporna to Kota Kinabalu.

It is believed that they were sent by syndicates to work or beg in the state capital.

“All of them were referred to Sandakan Immigration Department for further action,” he said, adding that two local men arrested during the operation tested positive for drugs.

The four-hour operation, which involved police and Immigration Department personnel, ended at 1.02am, here, today.
